Coach Sydney

Coach Sydney

Head Swim Coach

This year, we are excited to welcome a new head coach to the Hurricanes. Coach Sydney is currently a Division I swimmer (breaststroke) with Gardner Webb University. Sydney loves coaching swim team and is passionate about helping kids of all skill levels improve their swimming skills…and have a lot of fun over the summer! She is coming to us as a former assistant head coach of the Waveriders. Sydney will graduate May 2024 with a degree in Elementary Education. We are excited to have her!

Coach Caitlin

Coach Caitlin

Assistant Swim Coach

Hi! My name is Caitlin O’Brien, and I am so excited to be coaching the Hurricanes this year. I have been on the Hurricanes for six years and coaching for four years. I have swam year- round since 2021 with Quest, and I now swim with SwimRVA. This fall, I will be a junior at Richmond Christian School, where I swim on the school team during the winter and play varsity soccer in the spring. Swimming with the Hurricanes has helped grow my love for this sport so much, and I hope I can help pass this on to the next generation of swimmers.

Coach Brandon

Coach Brandon

Hello, my name is Brandon Vallent and I’m very excited to be returning as an assistant coach this summer for the Woodlake Hurricanes.  I have been a member of the team since I was 6 years old. I swim for Poseidon and love being in the sun and by the water. I just graduated from Powhatan High School and am attending VMI in the fall.  I enjoy teaching kids and can’t wait to meet everyone this summer!

I am a rising junior at Powhatan High School, where I swim for the school team. I have swam for the past 5 years with Poseidon. Being a coach is a big deal to me because I was on Tropical Storm myself. I’m extremely excited to see and coach the future of the Hurricanes.

Tropical Storm

Tropical Storm is a fun, safe learning environment for your young swimmer, ages 4-9, and a preparatory program for our Summer Swim Team. The dates for Tropical Storm are June 5 – June 29. Tropical Storm will practice in two groups. The first group is from 11am-11:30am (Monday-Thursday), and the second group is from 11:30am-12pm (Monday-Thursday).

Tropical Storm swimmers will have the opportunity to swim in a mini meet. Date will be announced prior to the start of the season. This is a great learn-to-swim program! Your swimmer will feel safe and comfortable in learning water safety and stroke technique.

  • Bridges the gap between lessons and a full-time swim team
  • Practices 4 times a week for 30 minutes
  • Learn same skills/drills/wording taught in teams
  • Lower commitment than full time team
  • Exposes swimmers to team environment
  • It is FUN!

Tropical Storm is headed up by our awesome coaching staff!
