Details:
11:00 am – approval of boats.
11:30 am – first heat starts in Woodlake’s Recycled Regatta.
The event ends when last boat is out of the water.

Spectators: Come watch them race and see if they float! Please line the pathway from Shelter Cove to the Boat House/Marina Area and cheer on your favorite boat.

Boaters: Ever wanted to make your own boat out of recycled materials or paddle the reservoir dressed in the theme of your boat? Get creative because here is your chance to do both!!!  This can be a great annual family event or neighborhood event.  Get your team together and register and start making your boat for the race!  The challenge is to build a water-worthy boat out of recycled materials.

Rules for Making your Boat:

  1. There will be several heats of “boats”, pending on the number of entries. (You will get your heat number at 11am on race day.) Winner of each heat will race in the final champion heat of the day!
  2. In order to be a winner in your heat your Recycled Regatta must:
  3. Stay afloat for the entire race including when you cross the finish line. (If you capsize, and can stay in place and get back on your vessel, and carry all the parts that fell off your Regatta, then keep going! You are NOT disqualified. But if you capsize a second time, you are out!)
  4. Minimum of three people on a Regatta. When crossing the finish line, all members that started the race on the vessel, must end the race on the vessel.
  5. No member of a vessel can touch the bottom of the reservoir at any time.
  6. No motor or battery powered engines allowed.
  7. No propelling your vessel with any of your body parts. (i.e.-kicking or swimming the boat.)
  8. Must wear life jackets at all times while on the water.
  9. Must live in Woodlake on July 4, 2025.
  10. All Recycled Regattas must be removed from the marina after the races and any boat pieces that fell off in the water must be retrieved.
  11. “Boats” must be free of sharp edges or anything that could pose a danger.
  12. PARENTAL CONSENT, BY SIGNATURE, IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR ALL CONTESTANTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18. Each participant on a boat must hand in a signed Waiver by their guardian if under 18 and if over 18 they need to sign the Waiver themselves and turn it in.)
  13. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. (Only one guardian per boat needed.) No exceptions.
  14. Recycled Regatta and Oars must be made completely of recycled/repurposed/reused material that propels you or sails you forward.

Here are a few tips to get the most mileage out of your homemade vessel:

• Think outside the box: Use materials for purposes you never thought they had
• Use a propulsion device: Boats using paddles or propellers tend to be faster than those with only sails
• Make it lightweight: Lighter boats reach top speed faster, as well as turn easier
• Make it float: The most obvious tip, but if it doesn’t float, it is going to be hard to win
• Have fun: It doesn’t matter how your boat performs as long as you have fun

Judging
(winning categories):

• The A1 – first place Recycled Regatta in final heat (Group wins 50 percent off a one-time rental for the group at the SRC Community Center before Jan. 1, 2026.  Value of $200.00.) • The Jetsam – debris from a Recycled Regatta that has sunk partially or fully and was originally themed a work of art. (Group wins a 2-hour pontoon ride with Captain for the 2025 boating season for up to 10 people.)
